YANGON, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar exported more than 132,938 tons of black grams within the first three months of the 2023-24 fiscal year, according to the country's Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
From April 1 to June 23 this year, the country earned over 111.03 million U.S. dollars from the exports of black grams, the ministry's figures showed. Myanmar's total exports of beans and pulses, including black grams, reached over 394,891 tons during the period, its figures showed.
In Myanmar, black grams are grown during the winter season and harvested between March and April.
Myanmar annually produces more than 500,000 tons of black grams, and about 85 percent of the total production is exported to countries including India, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan and the Philippines.
The Southeast Asian country exported more than 1.91 million tons of beans and pulses, including over 649,940 tons of black grams, in the 2022-23 fiscal year, the ministry's figures showed.
Beans and pulses are Myanmar's second-most cultivated crops after rice, accounting for 33 percent of the country's total agricultural production. ■
