SYDNEY, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Australian Federal Police announced on Saturday that a Melbourne man was arrested and charged with multiple offenses in relation to the alleged possession of a loaded handgun, around 3 kg of cocaine, 1 kg of methamphetamine, 100,000 Australian dollars in cash, and electronic devices.
Police said that the illicit drugs, cash, firearm, and electronic devices are located and seized in the man's home, where a search warrant was executed.
The loaded handgun was concealed within an ottoman in a playroom, police added.
The man, aged 32, is an alleged former Outlaw Motorcycle Gang member. He faced the Melbourne Magistrates court on Friday, charged with possessing an unregistered handgun, possessing a commercial quantity of border-controlled drugs, namely cocaine and methamphetamine, and dealing in money reasonably suspected to be the proceeds of crime.
He was remanded in custody and will reappear in court on Oct. 27, and investigations are still ongoing and further charges may be laid, according to the police statement.
The police detective inspector Chris Salmon said keeping illicit firearms off the streets was a priority because of the dangers they posed to the community in the hands of criminals.
"This loaded firearm was found by police in a child's playroom, which is hard to imagine what may have occurred if a young person managed to find it," Salmon said. ■
