ISLAMABAD, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers decreased by 4.4 percent in May on a month-on-month basis to 2.1 billion U.S. dollars, the State Bank of Pakistan said on Tuesday.
The workers' remittances decreased by 10.4 percent year on year, the central bank stated.
"With cumulative inflows of 24.8 billion dollars during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year starting from July 2022 to June 2023, the workers' remittances decreased by 12.8 percent as compared to the same period last year," the state bank added.
Remittances inflow during May 2023 was mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia with an estimated 524 million dollars; some 335.8 million dollars came from the United Arab Emirates.
Pakistan received 306.5 million dollars in remittances from the United Kingdom, whereas the inflow from the United States was some 257.2 million dollars. ■
