ULAN BATOR, June 9 (Xinhua) -- An intense heat wave is sweeping through western Mongolia, the country's weather monitoring agency said Friday.

"Air temperatures have exceeded 30 degrees Celsius across western provinces of the country since Tuesday. For example, the highest temperature, 36 degrees Celsius, was reported in Tes soum (administrative subdivision) of Uvs province on Thursday," the agency said in a statement.

The heatwave will continue in the west in the coming two days, and is expected to further hit large parts of the country, the agency said, warning the public to avoid heatstroke.

According to the forecast, this summer, temperatures will be higher than average across large parts of the Asian country, especially in western, central and southern Gobi provinces, and less precipitation is expected.
