TOKYO, May 26 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 struck Japan's eastern regions, the country's weather agency said on Friday.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the temblor occurred at 7:03 p.m. local time at a depth of 50 km, measuring lower 5 on Japan's seismic intensity scale, which peaks at 7.

The temblor's epicenter was located off the eastern Chiba prefecture at a latitude of 35.6 degrees north and a longitude of 140.7 degrees east.

Tremors were also felt in densely populated Tokyo, as well as the prefectures of Fukushima and Ibaraki.

According to Tokyo Electric Power Company, no abnormalities were reported at the Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini nuclear power plants.

The Japan Atomic Power Company said operations at the Tokai Daini nuclear power plant in Ibaraki Prefecture were normal.

No tsunami warning has been issued by the weather agency.
