Urgent: 6.2 magnitude quake jolts eastern Japan: JMA

TOKYO, May 26 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 struck Japan's eastern regions, the country's weather agency said on Friday.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor occurred at 7:03 p.m. local time at a depth of 50 km, measuring lower 5 on Japan's seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

The temblor's epicenter was located off eastern Chiba prefecture at a latitude of 35.6 degrees north and a longitude of 140.7 degrees east.

No tsunami warning has been issued.
