BANGKOK, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Amidst the global wave of the energy transition, Thailand is actively promoting its role as a leader in regional energy transformation.

During the opening ceremony of the Future Energy Asia Exhibition and Summit here on Wednesday, Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo, Deputy permanent secretary of the Energy Ministry, expressed Thailand's commitment to achieving a low-carbon economy through determined efforts and consistent policy measures.

"We are scaling up our utilization of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydropower, by implementing various measures, including subsidies," Veerapat said.

Thailand has set ambitious targets of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2065.

The three-day event is anticipated to attract more than 18,000 visitors from over 70 countries and regions, providing valuable insights from 350 CEOs, policymakers, and technical experts on the current trends, challenges, and prospects in the energy and mobility sectors.

Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, emphasized the growing necessity for collaborations and partnerships across sectors and regions to address climate change and develop sustainable solutions.

The exhibition showcases a diverse range of renewable energy and automotive exhibits, including electric vehicles, EV batteries, charging infrastructures, and enabling software and technologies.

The event has also garnered significant attention from Chinese exhibitors. Gao Cheng, Sales Director of a Chinese renewable energy company, expressed optimism about the Southeast Asian market.

"We have high expectations and see this exhibition as the first step in expanding our presence overseas and venturing beyond the Chinese market."
