COLOMBO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- 11 people were injured in Sri Lanka on Sunday when a vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree in Sri Lanka's central highlands, said the police.
The police said they suspected the driver had fallen asleep, adding that those traveling in the vehicle belonged to a dance troupe.
All the injured have been admitted to a local hospital.
Road accidents are common in central Sri Lanka, especially when it's raining.
The meteorology department has warned of rainy weather in the coming days.
Some 19,740 road accidents were reported in Sri Lanka in 2022, killing 2,485 people, according to the police. ■
