COLOMBO, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe pledged on Friday to modernize the country's education to create a young generation equipped with knowledge and abilities in the next 10 years, said the President's Media Division.
"Our educational system has not been upgraded as much as is required now. We are 10-15 years behind and we must now reconsider and move forward," Wickremesinghe said at the opening ceremony of Sri Lanka's first skills and job exhibition "Skills Expo 2023".
Pointing out that a cabinet committee has already been appointed for the modernization of education, the president promised that he would work on immediate reforms.
The job exhibition is held under the theme "An ability for Life - A job for Ability." ■
