KHOST, Afghanistan, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police arrested 17 people on the charge of involvement in criminal activities in Afghanistan's eastern Khost province, provincial police spokesman Mustaghfir Garbaz said on Thursday.
The people arrested on Wednesday were involved in illegal activities such as robbery, mobile snatching, drug smuggling, and creating law and order problems in the province and its vicinity.
In a similar crackdown, police arrested 155 alleged criminals in Afghanistan's northern Takhar province over the past month, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.
Afghan caretaker government has vowed to crack down on criminal elements elsewhere in Afghanistan to ensure law and order in the war-torn country. ■
