SEOUL, April 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's industrial accident deaths continued to grow for the third successive year in 2022, statistical office data showed Friday.

The number of industrial accident deaths came in at 2,223 in 2022, up 6.9 percent from the previous year, according to Statistics Korea. It has been on the rise since 2019.

The 2022 figure included 874 deaths from accidents and 1,349 deaths from diseases.

The number of deaths per 10,000 workers stood at 1.10 in 2022, up 0.03 from a year earlier.

One in four industrial accident deaths came from workplaces with less than five employees.

The number of suicides in the country was 26.0 per 100,000 people in 2021, up from 25.7 the previous year.

The suicide number for men came to 35.9 in 2021, more than double 16.2 for women.

The country's suicide rate in 2020 reached 24.1 per 100,000 people, marking the highest among member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
