SYDNEY, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) have seized 20 kg of methylamphetamine, worth approximately 30 million Australian dollars (about 20 million U.S. dollars), from a vehicle in the state's north.

NSW Police said on Tuesday that the seizure came after officers from NSW and Queensland commenced an investigation into a cross-border drug syndicate last month.

As part of their inquiries, officers stopped a driver on the Pacific Highway in Nabiac at about 10:30 p.m. local time on Monday.

A subsequent search of the man's vehicle led police to locate three bags containing approximately 20 kg of methylamphetamine.

After executing a search warrant at a unit on Marshall Street in Bankstown, officers also located and seized about 138,000 Australian dollars (about 93,000 dollars) in cash, a luxury watch and drug paraphernalia.

The driver was arrested and taken to Foster Police Station. He was denied bail to appear at a local court on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old has been charged with two counts of supplying a large quantity of a prohibited drug and one count of knowingly dealing with the proceeds of a crime.
