KABUL, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan central bank sold 15 million U.S. dollars via auction on Saturday in a bid to keep the national currency afghani stable against foreign currencies, especially the U.S. dollar, Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) said in a statement.
The afghani was tumbling against foreign currencies especially the U.S. dollar over the past couple of months. The exchange rate for 1 U.S. dollar stands currently at 86.5 afghanis, compared to 85 afghanis last week.
The DAB has injected millions of U.S. dollars into the money exchange market over the past couple of months in efforts to prevent the fall of afghani against foreign currencies. ■
