Pakistan's remittances increase 27.1 pct in March: central bank

ISLAMABAD, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased by 27.1 percent in March on a month-on-month basis, the State Bank of Pakistan has said.

The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 2.53 billion U.S. dollars in March as compared to the previous month's figure of 1.99 billion dollars, the central bank said, adding that it decreased by 10.6 percent on a year-on-year basis.

With a cumulative inflow of 20.52 billion dollars during the July-March period in the fiscal year of 2023, the remittances decreased by 10.8 percent on a yearly basis, the figures showed.

Last month, the remittances mainly came from Saudi Arabia with 563.9 million dollars, the United Arab Emirates with 406.7 million dollars, Britain with 422 million dollars, and the United States with 316 million dollars, according to the bank.

Workers' remittances play an important role in Pakistan's economy as they are one of major sources of foreign exchange.
