KABUL, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan security forces have discovered a weapon cache storing anti-aircraft guns in the eastern Paktika province, said a statement from the General Directorate of Intelligence, the country's counter-intelligence agency, on Friday.
The arms and ammunition seized include three pieces of anti-aircraft guns, 11 pieces of AK-47 and RPG-7 and thousands of bullets, the statement said.
Without providing more details, it added that the security forces would continue to collect arms and ammunition from people except military personnel.
Similarly, the Afghan forces also collected 197 pieces of different assault rifles including AK-47 from Kama and Goshta districts in the eastern Nangarhar province days ago.
Since assuming power in August 2021, the Afghan caretaker government has collected thousands of light and heavy arms and ammunition, including armored personnel carriers and tanks, from across the war-torn country. ■
