SEOUL, April 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korean carmakers' global automotive sale grew in double digits last month thanks to solid demand both at home and abroad, industry data showed on Monday.
The number of cars, sold globally by five local automakers including Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Korea and KG Mobility, was 730,241 in March, up 19.8 percent from the same month of last year.
The domestic auto sale advanced 26.8 percent to 140,926 units, and the car sale outside South Korea jumped 18.5 percent to 589,315 units.
Global car sale by the country's top carmaker Hyundai Motor totaled 381,885 units in March, up 21.3 percent from a year earlier.
Hyundai's car sale at home soared 40.9 percent to 74,529 units, and its overseas sale spiked 17.4 percent to 307,356 vehicles.
Kia Motors, affiliated with Hyundai, globally sold 278,275 vehicles in March, up 10.9 percent from a year ago.
The number of global car sale by GM Korea, Renault Korea and KG Mobility all expanded in double digits to 40,781, 15,621 and 13,679, respectively last month. ■
