JAKARTA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly and Russia's Justice Minister Konstantin Chuychenko signed an extradition cooperation agreement to fight transnational crime on Friday in Bali.

"This extradition cooperation agreement is crucial for us to combat crimes, particularly transnational crimes like money laundering, drug trafficking, and corruption," said Laoly.

Although there is a deportation system in place to send criminals back to their home countries, Laoly emphasized that formal and legally binding extradition collaboration is the preferred method.

One of the biggest foreign tourist populations in Indonesia is made up of Russians, according to Statistics Indonesia, and the value of trade between the two nations grew by 29.87 percent annually in 2022 with the potential to rise further.
