Aussie man arrested over smuggling 3.7-mln-USD worth of drugs

SYDNEY, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Tasmanian Police and Australian Federal Police have arrested a man at Hobart Airport, after he was found to be carrying 5.5 million Australian dollars (about 3.7 million U.S. dollars) worth of cocaine and methylamphetamine.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, at approximately 8:00 p.m. local time on Monday, police officers were undertaking drug screening on incoming passengers, when a 32-year-old man was indicated to be in possession of a controlled substance.

After searching the man's belongings, police located 2 kilograms of cocaine and 3.5 kilograms of methylamphetamine.

The man, who had recently arrived on a flight from Sydney, was arrested and taken to the Hobart Police Station, where he was interviewed and charged with trafficking controlled substance.

The man was detained and is set to appear in court on Tuesday.
