KABUL, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The security forces of Afghan caretaker government have killed more than 100 militants affiliated to Daesh or the Islamic State (IS) outfit over the past 12 months, a local media outlet the Tolonews reported Tuesday.

The security forces, according to the private media outlet, have conducted 70 military crackdowns on hideouts of the IS group in Kabul, Balkh, Herat and other parts of Afghanistan.

Although security situation has been tremendously improved since Afghanistan's takeover by Taliban in August 2021, the war-ravaged country has witnessed several terrorist attacks mostly in the shape of suicide bombings.

The latest terror attacks, which the IS claimed responsibility, took place in the northern Balkh province and killed a provincial governor and injured a dozen others, including five journalists.

However, acting foreign minister of the establishment, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi has downplayed the IS group as a threat, asserting that Daesh does not exist in any part of Afghanistan.

Earlier, chief spokesman of the Taliban-run caretaker administration, Zabihullah Mujahid has pointed out that Daesh "is not a serious threat" and the security forces would smash the militant group.
