ISLAMABAD, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir Khan said the government has been making efforts to spur socio-economic development with renewable energy, strengthening Pakistan's goal to become a low-carbon, renewable energy-reliant economy.

"Pakistan is promoting renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources for economic development and prosperity of the people," the minister said while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a grid station in the country's northwest Mansehra city on Monday.

Khan said all renewable energy sources including wind, hydropower, and solar are being promoted to make Pakistan self-sufficient in electricity and enhance energy access as well as sustainable development, which is inevitable for the people's prosperity.

The Pakistani government strongly believed in uniformed development of the South Asian country and has started scores of energy projects in different cities of the country, he said, adding that the pace of work on halted energy projects has also been expedited.

Despite hard times, the government is striving to take the country out of existing challenges and put it on the road to progress and development, he said.
