BISHKEK, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan has made various achievements, including in the social, infrastructure and defense sectors, during the past two years, President Sadyr Zhaparov said Tuesday while celebrating the Nowruz holiday on the spring equinox.

The spring equinox is when the Kyrgyz people celebrate the Nowruz holiday to greet the arrival of spring.

On the day at the central square of Bishkek, Zhaparov made a speech wishing all the Kyrgyz people and far-way compatriots success and all the best, and recalled the achievements over the two years of his presidency.

He noted that the salaries of social workers and civil servants have been raised, the infrastructure has been improving, and a favorable environment has been created to attract foreign investors.

In addition to improvements in security and defense and interaction with strategic partners and friendly countries, Zhaparov highlighted the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway project, stressing that alternative trade routes are necessary for the landlocked country to gain access to the sea.

"There are more and more such prominent results of our work and our goals are being realized," said Zhaparov, adding that the country is confident about tackling the remaining "unresolved problems."

For this Nowruz holiday, folk festivals, performances by various creative musical groups, as well as sports competitions, have been organized across the country.

Traditionally during the holiday, the Kyrgyz people meet guests and treat them to traditional dishes, such as a classic sweet paste named sumolok, which is made of sprouted wheat, flour, butter and sugar.
