JAKARTA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian students rallied on Tuesday against Japan's controversial plan to dump its nuclear wastewater into the sea.

They delivered statements while clad in anti-radioactive costumes and holding up posters depicting perilous nuclear waste in front of the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta.

"In the name of humanity, we reject the plan to dump 1.25 million tons of nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean," said Kevin Sidabutar, coordinator of the organization named Environmental Lovers Student Participation.

He expressed his concern that the disposal of wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant containing hazardous substances would trigger transboundary pollution in various countries, including Indonesia.

Nuclear pollution will also damage the marine ecosystem and endanger the livelihoods of fishermen, Sidabutar added.
