TOKYO, March 17 (Xinhua) -- An architectural showcase of the innovative designs and projects of Heatherwick Studio kicked off on Friday in Tokyo, featuring 28 key projects by Heatherwick, including the British pavilion of 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

The exhibition, named "Heatherwick Studio: Building Soulfulness," offers insight into the ideas and experiments that go into realizing the works of Thomas Heatherwick, founder of the London-based architecture firm Heatherwick Studio.

As part of the celebration of craftsmanship, the Heatherwick exhibition showcases models and material samples as well as mock-ups of the studio's designs at the Mori Art Museum, including a light-up model of the UK pavilion for the Shanghai World Expo and the studio's expanding table which transforms from a smooth circle to a 4-meter-long ellipsis.

The show, the studio's first solo exhibition in Japan, is divided into six sections exploring the idea of soulfulness, which permeates the studio's design philosophy, ranging from "Coming Together" and "Connecting with Everyone" to "Experiencing Sculptural Space" and "Feeling Nature in Urban Space."
