KABUL, March 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 4,986 Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland from neighboring Iran over the past two days, said a statement Thursday from Afghanistan's Ministry for Refugees and Repatriation Affairs.
According to the statement, the returning process continues, and about 280,000 Afghan refugees have returned to their home over the past six months.
Afghan caretaker government has been calling upon Afghans living abroad as refugees to return to their homeland.
More than 2.5 million registered Afghan refugees have reportedly been living in Iran and about the same number are in Pakistan. ■
