YANGON, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Eleven people were killed and 24 others injured by fire in Myanmar in this February, the country's fire services department said Tuesday.

A total of 193 fire accidents occurred in February this year, as compared to 254 fire accidents that killed 13 and injured 19 in the same period last year, official data showed.

"The fire outbreaks in the country in February this year caused the damage of over 443.42 million kyats (over 211,156 U.S. dollars)," an official from the fire services department told Xinhua.

Most of the fire outbreaks in the country occurred in Yangon Region, followed by Shan State and Mandalay Region respectively, he added.

The causes of the fire accidents included negligence, faulty electrical wiring, arson, forest fire and lightning.

Last year, 96 people were killed and 139 others injured in 1,507 fire accidents in the Southeast Asian country, official figures showed.
