MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, March 9 (Xinhua) -- A blast killed the governor of Afghanistan's northern Balkh province on Thursday, a local television channel reported.
The explosion rocked Mazar-i-Sharif city, capital of Balkh province, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said.
"A blast took place next to the office of provincial governor office minutes ago and so far we have no more details," Waziri told Xinhua.
In the meantime, the private TV channel Tolonews said security forces had cordoned off the area and blocked public access to the site of the incident. ■
