HERAT, Afghanistan, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have arrested 10 people on charge of involvement in drug trafficking in Afghanistan's western Herat province, provincial police said in a statement released on Wednesday.
The alleged smugglers were attempting to take 29 kg hashish and objects used in manufacturing heroin out of the provincial capital Herat, the statement said.
In another development, Afghanistan's counter-narcotics police arrested two people for drug smuggling in the northern Samangan and western Farah provinces on Saturday.
The Afghan caretaker administration has banned poppy production and its processing into drugs, and has pledged to crack down on illegal drugs and drug trafficking in the country. ■
