Kabul, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Torkham crossing point, which connects Afghanistan to neighboring Pakistan, has been shut down, a local television channel the Tolonews reported Monday.
Quoting a local official Mawlawi Mohammad Sediq, the private media outlet reported that the travelers had been advised to avoid crossing the border point until further notice.
The main trade and transit road -- the Torkham border town is the major gateway between Afghanistan and Pakistan where thousands of travelers including patients and businessmen enter Pakistan and vice versa daily.
Pakistan also uses the Torkham crossing point to transfer its commercial goods via Afghanistan to Tajikistan and neighboring Central Asian states.
However, officials here in Kabul have yet to make comments. ■
