TOKYO, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- A snowboarder was killed on Sunday after being caught in an avalanche in eastern central Japan's Gunma prefecture, local media reported.
The 46-year-old woman, among a group of four, was snowboarding in the backcountry area at Mount Tanigawa in the town of Minakami, and the rest of the group called the police at 10:55 a.m. local time to report her missing, Kyodo News reported.
Following the report, the woman, a company employee in the prefecture, was found buried in snow and unconscious, according to the local police station.
Her death was confirmed later after being transported to a hospital in the city of Maebashi. The other three were not injured.
On the same day, another avalanche accident was reported at a ski resort in the country's Nagano prefecture, where two among a group of five foreign skiers still remained unconscious at the scene. ■
