Pakistani minister stresses skill-based education to fulfill market requirements

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has stressed the need for skill-based education in the country to fulfill market requirements.

Addressing an event on Tuesday here at the National Skills University Islamabad on the International Day of Education, the minister said that the government is focusing on skill-based education and steps are being taken to promote it.

"It is imperative for us to transform our education system in accordance with the modern trends," he said, highlighting the government's concrete steps to create an effective teaching and learning environment across the country.

Iqbal said that the realities of education have been transformed as skill-based education is also gaining momentum.

A human resource equipped with a diverse set of skills is the prerequisite to deal with the needs and requirements of the modern age driven by unprecedented technological advancements, he added, urging the teachers to inculcate practical knowledge instead of only theories.
