ASADABAD, Afghanistan, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan security forces have collected a huge number of arms and ammunition during a series of operations in eastern province of Kunar, defense ministry official Mawlawi Sayedullah Razwan said Tuesday.
A total of 703 pieces of different kinds of weapons and more than 12,000 different types of bullets have been collected from different parts of Kunar province during a series of operations over the past month, Rezwan told Xinhua.
The arms and ammunition were collected from individuals and handed over to security authorities here on Monday, the official added.
As part of its efforts to stabilize security in Afghanistan, the Taliban-run caretaker administration has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone not serving in the security apparatus. ■
