TASHKENT, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A central heating boiler explosion at an academic institution in Termez city in Uzbekistan killed two people and injured one, the regional administration press service said on Monday.
The explosion occurred Monday morning "as a result of the accumulation of excess steam and high internal pressure due to the frozen external pipes" of the boiler, the report said.
The two killed by the explosion were the employees of the educational institution. Another employee was taken to hospital with injuries, it added.
The city's prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal investigation. ■
