Bangladesh approves purchase of over 2 mln refined fuel oil

DHAKA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government has approved a proposal to import more than 2 million tonnes of refined fuel oil in the first half of 2023.

Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase in a meeting with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair approved the purchase on Wednesday.

The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will spend 182.15 billion taka (1.75 billion U.S. dollars) to buy fuel oil from seven state-owned enterprises in countries including China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

The refined fuel oil will be imported from Petrochina of China, UNIPEC of China, BSP of Indonesia, ENOC of the UAE, IOCL of India, PTLCL of Malaysia and PTTT of Thailand.

The committee also approved the BPC's proposal to import 60,000 tonnes of diesel at 5.45 billion taka from India's Numaligarh Refinery Ltd this year. (1 U.S. dollar equals about 100 taka).
