DHAKA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds formed a human chain in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Monday to demand justice over the shooting death of a Bangladeshi student Sayed Arif Faisal in the U.S. by the police.
Protesters gathered outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon to form the human chain.
Agitated protesters carried placards inscribed with "Human Rights are Violated in the US Today", "Justice for Faisal" and "Stop Violations of Human Rights."
The protest erupted as the U.S. National Security Council's Senior Director for South Asia Rear Admiral Eileen Laubacher was visiting Dhaka and holding a meeting with Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen.
Laubacher arrived in the capital on Saturday for a four-day visit.
On Jan. 4, Faisal, a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was shot dead by police in the city of Cambridge. The student's family has also called for justice over his death.
Bangladeshi columnist Ajay Dasgupta said the U.S. is advising other countries on human rights but there are many incidents of human rights violations and racial violence taking place in the U.S.
He said the U.S. police shot dead a Bangladeshi who was not found guilty of any crime.
"This is very unfortunate. We want justice for him," he said. ■
