YANGON, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Fifty-seven people were killed and 280 others injured in 169 traffic accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway in 2022, the state-run media citing traffic police reported on Sunday.
The dead included 51 males and six females, while the injured included 175 males and 105 females, the media report said.
The 587-km highway, connecting the country's commercial city Yangon and the second-largest city of Mandalay, was inaugurated in December 2010.
Human errors such as overspeeding, negligent driving and drowsy driving are mostly blamed for highway accidents in the country.
In 2021, 84 people were killed and 394 others injured in 240 road accidents on the highway in the Southeast Asian country. ■
