KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- One child was killed and three others were wounded as a mortar mine left over from past wars went off in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Tuesday, provincial administration spokesman Hajji Zaid said on Wednesday.
The mortar mine was found by the children from the same family in Arghandab district on Tuesday evening and the siblings began playing with it, when it suddenly exploded, killing one on the spot and injuring the three others, the spokesman said.
Afghanistan is reportedly one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world. ■
