Malaysia sees business confidence rise in Q4: survey

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian businesses remain upbeat despite signs of downward moderation in the fourth quarter, with a confidence indicator of 3.2 percent, an official survey showed Tuesday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the services, industry, wholesale and retail trade sectors have a positive outlook for the fourth quarter.

Business sentiment in the services sector remains favorable with an indicator of 9.2 percent in the cited quarter as against 13.6 percent in the last quarter.

Similarly, sentiment in the industry sector continues to be positive by posting a confidence indicator of 3.7 percent in the fourth quarter as compared to 6.6 percent in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, the wholesale and retail trade sector expects an improved business situation with the confidence indicator rebounding to a positive trajectory of 1.9 percent from minus 5.8 percent in the third quarter.

The construction sector, however, remains the most pessimistic sector for consecutive quarters with the confidence indicator of minus 29.2 percent as compared to minus 24.9 percent in the previous quarter.
