ZARANJ, Afghanistan, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces have thwarted attempts to smuggle firearms in Afghanistan's western Nimroz province and arrested one person, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
When checking a car in Kang district recently, personnel of the national army discovered a number of arms and ammunition including two pieces of American-made M4 assault rifles, two rocket-propelled grenades and a large number of bullets and arrested a man, the statement said.
The security forces will not allow anyone to smuggle arms and ammunition out of the country, the statement said, without providing more details.
The Taliban-run caretaker administration has stepped up efforts to prevent illegal transportation of firearms and other military equipment to reinforce security institutions of the country. ■
