HERAT, Afghanistan, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Five members of the Islamic State (IS) outfit have been killed during a special operation in Herat city, capital of western Afghanistan's Herat province, provincial administration spokesman Hamidullah Motawakel, said Wednesday.
Acting on tip off, the Afghan security forces stormed a hideout of the IS in Babaji locality of Police District 12 of Herat city early Wednesday, killing the five on the spot, the official told reporters.
The security forces have also discovered a number of arms and ammunition from the hideout of the militants, the official added.
In identical operations in Kabul and the eastern Kunar province, several militants affiliated with the IS group have been killed and arrested over the past couple of weeks, according to officials. ■
