KABUL, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces have arrested six militants affiliated with the rival Daesh or Islamic State (IS) outfit in the eastern Nangarhar province, said a Defense Ministry statement released here Sunday.

"Acting on tip-off, the personnel of 201 Khalid Bin Walid Corps raided a hideout of Khawarej (a reference to Islamic State group) in Nangarhar province and arrested six Daesh militants," the statement added.

A number of arms and ammunitions including an AK-47 assault rifles were also found from the hideout of the arrested militants, the statement said, without giving the exact date of the operation and its place.

It also called upon the Afghan people not to allow any suspected insurgents to create law and order problems for society.

The Taliban-run caretaker administration has downplayed the reported presence of the IS group in Afghanistan as a serious threat, saying the security forces would continue to smash the rival armed group elsewhere in the war-torn country.
