ASADABAD, Afghanistan, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Two key members of the Islamic State (IS) were killed in a special operation by security forces in Shaygal district of Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province on Tuesday, the provincial police said.

According to Abdul Haq Haqqani, the provincial police commander, two key figures of the IS outfit were tracked down and eliminated in a special operation conducted by intelligence and special security forces in the Lachi area of Shaygal district Tuesday at around 06:00 a.m. local time.

"Sefatullah, known as Rezwan, a ranking commander, and Abdul Rahman, the appointed judge of the group, were targeted in the special operation," the official added.

In a similar operation in west Kabul more than a month ago, several IS members were captured as the Taliban-led administration accelerates its fight against IS across the country.
