KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew 10.8 percent in September, driven by mining and manufacturing sectors, official data showed Tuesday.

The manufacturing sector output increased by 10.4 percent in September, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.

The main sub-sectors contributing to the growth in the manufacturing sector in September were electrical and electronics products, petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products, as well as transport equipment and other manufacturer products.

The mining sector output rose 15 percent in September as compared to the same period of the previous year, while the electricity sector climbed 4.1 percent year on year.

For the third quarter, the IPI grew 12.2 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.

The increase was attributed to growth in the manufacturing index (13.4 percent), electricity index (9 percent) and mining index (8.6 percent).
