DHAKA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's inflation decreased to 8.91 percent in October from 9.10 percent in September.

Bangladeshi Planning Minister MA Mannan on Tuesday revealed the inflation data in October released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) at a press conference.

According to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by the BBS, the food inflation declined to 8.5 percent in October from 9.08 percent in the previous month.

Non-food items inflation, however, increased to 9.58 percent in October from 9.13 percent in September, the data showed.

The country's inflation drifted lower in September and October after surging to a more than 10-year high of 9.52 percent in August.

In June, the country unveiled a record nearly 7 trillion-taka (about 70 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year starting in July and the government said it is committed to containing the rising trend of inflation by addressing inconsistencies between supply and demand.

According to the budget proposal, Bangladesh is targeting an average inflation rate of 5.6 percent in the new fiscal year.
