KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Personnel of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) have discovered a weapons cache in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Monday.
Containing several pieces of arms including AK-47 assault rifles and a large amount of ammunition, the weapons cache was discovered during a special operation of the counter intelligence agency in the Dasht-e-Archi district a couple of days ago, the report said.
In addition to assault rifles, several pistols, dozens of hand grenades and thousands of bullets were also found in the weapons cache.
Afghanistan's Taliban-run caretaker government has been trying to collect arms and ammunition as part of its efforts to improve social security in the war-torn country. ■
