SUVA, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Cyber threats are increasingly becoming more cutting-edge, multi-faceted, targeted and frequent in nature, said a Fijian official on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Fiji National University 2022 Cyber Security Symposium, Fiji's Acting Permanent Secretary for Communications Tupou'tuah Baravilala said that there is a need to ensure Fiji's cyber security measures are up to par with the digital transformation shift.
Various digitalization efforts under the digitalFIJI flagship program have enabled government services to be effectively brought closer to Fijians and have driven the country towards a digital economy, she said, adding that with these opportunities, the shift to online spaces has also presented a challenge, in that the attack surface area has increased.
Baravilala said that significant investments made in the information and communications technology sector have made it more critical to protect digital infrastructure from the threat of cybercrime.
She said that the ministry's cyber security efforts can be undertaken by individuals and organizations in order to safely navigate online spaces. ■
