DHAKA, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Huawei Bangladesh has announced six startups as winners of the Huawei ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Incubator 2022 program in Bangladesh.
The announcement came in a gala event held Wednesday in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, which was organized by Huawei Bangladesh with the cooperation of strategic partners Startup Bangladesh Limited and iDEA Bangladesh.
The program has two categories, and the champions are Insure Cow for the Idea Stage and Jahaji Limited for the Early Stage. The six winners will get seed funding and global cloud computing resource as the award in addition to the opportunity to meet global startups for knowledge sharing.
An independent jury panel comprising iDEA Bangladesh, Huawei Bangladesh, Startup Bangladesh and other renowned leaders of the startup ecosystem of Bangladesh, selected the winners.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Bangladesh's Minister of State for ICT under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, attended the event.
"From a startup, in just 35 years, Huawei has become a huge company. This can be an inspiration to follow for startups," the state minister said in his speech.
"I thank Huawei for its involvement in three ongoing projects with the ICT Division. Besides, I call on Huawei to consider Bangladesh a significant market for them so that they can play a positive role in the country's ICT sector and support Bangladesh in achieving its vision to become 'Smart Bangladesh' by 2041," he said.
Addressing the event, Li Jiming, ambassador of China to Bangladesh, said that in recent years, Chinese enterprises have expanded their investments in Bangladesh in terms of infrastructure, science and technology, with ICT being one of the most promising areas.
Li said he is confident that China and Bangladesh will enjoy more favorable opportunities for cooperation in ICT and foresee much brighter prospects for win-win cooperation.
Pan Junfeng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited, said that for over 23 years Huawei, a Chinese tech company, has been working with the ICT sector, telecom operators, and local partners in Bangladesh. Huawei ICT Incubator is part of its continued efforts to facilitate the South Asian country's young minds by empowering them, training them and providing them with unmatched opportunities.
On the ICT incubator program 2022 in Bangladesh, Pan noted that throughout the entire program, participants got the chance to learn from industry experts and gained both business and technical knowledge to further refine their ideas. ■
