NEW DELHI, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- India's daily COVID-19 caseload Friday decreased to 3,947 from 4,272 the previous day, officials said.

According to federal health ministry data released on Friday morning, 3,947 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,587,307 in the country.

With the reporting of fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 39,583.

The country also logged 18 related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,629 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

With the increase in cases, the daily positivity rate stood at 1.23 percent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded 1.44 percent, the ministry data showed.

The ministry said so far 44,019,095 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals, of whom 5,096 were discharged during the past 24 hours.

According to the health ministry, 2,185,216,710 doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in India and over 895 million COVID-19 tests had been conducted across the country until Friday morning.

A cumulative total of 895,054,503 samples had been tested up to Sept. 29, the health ministry said on Friday. Out of these 320,734 tests were conducted on Thursday alone.

The Indian government is focussing on improving booster dose coverage as the uptake for the third dose has been low. The aim is to boost the immunity of the people in the wake of the detection of new COVID-19 variants.
