VIENTIANE, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Laos recorded a trade deficit of 166 million U.S. dollars in August 2022, according to a report from the Lao Trade Portal website on Monday.

The total value of trade last month amounted to 1,020 million U.S. dollars, of which 427 million U.S. dollars were exports and 593 million U.S. dollars were imports, according to the report.

Laos' main export products included gold and gold bullion, paper and paper products, copper ore, wood pulp and paper scraps, rubber, fertilizer, clothing, beverages, sugar and footwear.

The country's main imports included diesel, mechanical equipment, land vehicles, wood pulp and paper scraps, gasoline, beverages, plastic utensils, precious or semi-precious stones, live animals, iron, steel and steel products.

China remained the top export destination for Laos, followed by Vietnam and Thailand.

Meanwhile, the main importing countries of Laos included Thailand, China, Vietnam, the United States and Japan, according to the report.
