Afghan police discover weapon cache, arrest 5 in eastern Kapisa province

KABUL, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have discovered a weapon cache and arrested five persons for keeping arms illegally in eastern Kapisa province, the Interior Ministry said in a statement here on Sunday.

During a cleanup operation on Saturday, police personnel, besides discovering 21 stocks of assault rifles including AK-47, also found and confiscated two sets of walkie-talkies, a few hand grenades, a laptop computer, and a number of ammunitions, the statement said without giving more details.

Police have taken five persons into custody and an investigation has been initiated, the statement further said.

Without identifying the arrested men, the statement said that police would do their best to ensure law and order in the province.

The Taliban-run administration has vowed to collect arms and ammunitions from anyone out of security organs to stabilize peace and security in the war-torn country.
