MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Counter-Narcotic Police of Afghanistan have rounded up 17 drug addicts from across Mazar-i-Sharif city, the capital of northern Balkh province, according to a statement of provincial police released Sunday.
The drug addicts have been shifted to a rehabilitation center, the statement added.
Police have also discovered 25 kg of hashish and arrested one person on charge of smuggling the contraband from Sarobi district of Paktika province on Saturday, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.
The Taliban-run caretaker administration has promised to crack down on poppy cultivation and drug trafficking until the country gets rid of the menace. ■
